Kids Raise Money for Michael J. Fox Foundation

A group of kids—all Upper Nyack Elementary School students—decided (on their own, points out mom Jennifer Schmidt) to have a carwash and lemonade stand and donate the proceeds to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

They washed cars for four hours June 14 and raised $146.

The idea was spearheaded by Alida Schmidt, Logan Shorter, and Austin Shorter, and at the carwash they were joined by Nina Reines, Ryan Paris, Karson Beringer, Khadijah Kareem, Amelia Scanlan, Violet McGilvray, and Penelope Thomson, Schmidt said.

Their parents hope to keep their enthusiasm for charity an ongoing thing.
