Kick Cancer in Congers Saturday

Jason Krause was 33 years old when brain cancer took his life Jan. 10, 2008, but his friends continue the fight against the disease in his name.

The fourth annual Jason Krause "Kick" Cancer Scholarship Fundraiser is set for 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Kennelly's Grille House in Congers. The family-friendly event raises money for Jason K: A Matter of Hope at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and for the scholarship given out in Krause's name each year to a soccer player at Clarkstown North. Krause was an all-county soccer player at North, where he graduated in 1993.

Once again, the fundraiser will feature sports celebrities. This year the list includes former New York Yankees David Cone, Cecil Fielder and Mickey Rivers, former New York Met John Franco, Ken Daneyko from the New Jersey Devils and retired boxer Gerry Cooney. Entertainment also includes a magician, Outragehiss Pets, an arts and crafts table, a bouncy castle and a DJ. There will be a raffle with the grand prize of VIP party passes and tickets to the big game in New Jersey in February 2014.

Donations at the door are $40 for adults, $10 for children ages six and older and admission is free for children five and younger. That includes food, wine, beer and soft drinks.
