First Niagara Foundation Donates $5,000 to Nyack Center

The First Niagara Foundation gave the Nyack Center a $5,000 gift to support its after-school program for children in Kindergarten through eighth grade.

"We are fortunate to have an organization like First Niagara that is committed to supporting resources such as the ones we provide," said Nyack Center Executive Director Kim Cross. “The after-school program gives students a safe place to go to socialize and complete their homework, as well as, provides them with supportive role models.”

The Nyack Center has 87 students enrolled in the after school program, which is open Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and offers educational, creative and recreational activities. Staff members work with each child on their daily homework and school projects. The staff members also act as mentors for the children they work with.

“We are pleased to provide financial assistance to Nyack Center for their after-school program,” said Sara Tucker First Vice President, Tri-State Business Banking, First Niagara. “At its most basic level, mentoring helps because it guarantees a young person that there is someone who cares about them. A child is not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges.

"Supporting local youth with recreational and educational programming is an excellent way to invest in our local community. Programs like these prepare our youth to become responsible adults.”
