Orangetown Police: Safely Dispose of Your Prescription Drugs

"Pill Turn Back Day" allows residents to properly dispose of unwanted, expired medications.

Orangetown Police are urging residents with unwanted or expired prescription medications in their homes to safely dispose of the drugs through a free, no-questions asked drop off program.

On Saturday, April 27, Orangetown Police will have a drug collection station set up as part of the DEA's national Prescription Pill Turn Back Day effort. The program, similar to Rockland County's ongoing Operation Medicine Cabinet, is designed to prevent prescription drugs from getting into the hands of drug abusers and to protect the environment by ensuring the drugs are sent for proper disposal - not just flushed down the drain or put into the trash, where they can pollute the environment.

In addition to the police drop off points, local pharmacies are taking part in the effort:
