RRA's Row-a-Thon This Saturday

The River Rowing Association's PULL WITH PURPOSE row-a-thon to benefit the Nyack Center will be held on Saturday, March 3rd from 9am to 11am at the Nyack Center. Registration opens at 8am.

The PWP row-a-thon is a 2-hour relay race on ergometers (indoor rowing machines). Create teams of up to 5-people to compete for prizes. Larger teams can also participate in the non-racing category.

Registration fee is $75 of fundraising per person, with all proceeds going to the Nyack Center - a community center that provides services ranging from a "Breakfast Cub" that offers nutritious breakfasts to K-6 children before school, to an "After School Program" that provides homework help for K-8, to teen counseling and activities. The Nyack Center supports the full socio-economic spectrum of Nyack's diverse community and focuses its efforts on serving low-income families and at-risk youth. Teams can use donations and/or sell raffle tickets to cover their registration fees and to raise additional funds. Last year this event raised over $9,000 for the Nyack Center.

There will be prizes for teams that raise the most money, for the team with the best total distance rowed (unadjusted) and for the teams that place 1st, 2nd and 3rd (on an age- and gender-adjusted distance). Also, raffle tickets will be sold both before and during the event - with great prizes for the winners, including a Concept 2 ergometer and a new iPad.

You can register in one of two ways. You can register for the row-a-thon and raise funds for the Nyack Center electronically by going to http://www.firstgiving.com/nyackcenter and clicking on the "Start Fundraising" button. This will take you through an electronic registration for the row-a-thon and will allow you to create your own mini web page that you can direct people to for donations. You can customize your web page to describe why you are doing the row-a-thon and then keep track of any donations made. You can also link your page to your row-a-thon team (come up with some creative names!) so that you can keep track of your team's fundraising as well. As a group, we're hoping that the PWP Row-a-thon can raise at least $10,000.

The second way to register a team is to simply e-mail pwp@riverrowing.org with your team name and contact info for team captain. Again, you can sell raffle tickets as an alternative or additional means of raising funds. We're looking for $75 per participant in either straight donations or raffle ticket sales to cover the registration fee.
