The Holiday time always presents a low period in the Hudson Valley Blood supply.  This year it comes on top of an already depleted supply.  Giving a pint of blood is the easiest and least costly gift one can give to another.  As a matter of fact, one pint can help more than one person in many instances.  All it takes is about 1 hour of your time.    Most people feel great after donating blood. You can resume full activity as long as you feel well. Just avoid heavy lifting, pushing or picking up heavy objects for at least four or five hours after giving blood. You will rest after the donation and be served refreshments. After donating, we also suggest drinking extra fluids for the next 48 hours.   Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with appropriate written permission (NY) or consent (NJ) from their parent or legal guardian - form can be printed from list at left) and weigh 110 pounds and be in good health.

Donors age 76 and older can continue to donate blood if they meet all donor criteria and present a physician's letter allowing them to donate.

If you have specific questions about your donor eligibility, call
1-800-688-0900.  Whole blood donors also cannot have donated in the prior 56 days.   Drop by the Mountainview Condos lower clubhouse (36 Sierra Vista Lane) off of Mountainview Avenue in Valley Cottage on 12/28
