GraceMusic Presents A "Three Organist Extravaganza"

GraceMusic Presents A Very
Special Organ Concert

It’s a special experience to
hear the organ music of composers like Bach, Franck, Mendelssohn, Widor, and
Vierne in a setting that pairs an English-style country church and a Casavant
organ – one you can enjoy right here in Rockland at Nyack’s Grace Episcopal
Church on Sunday January 26, 2014, at 4 p.m. when GraceMusic offers a trio
concert featuring three organists that represent over 40 years of music-making
at Grace Episcopal Church: John Gregory Bate, Brian-Paul Thomas, and Brandon Nicholas
Beachamp.

The 25-rank, two-manual
Gallery Organ was built by Casavant Frères of Quebec in 1967 (Opus 2930), a wonderful example of
thoughtful and dedicated organ-building of the time. Earlier generations of
American organs were modeled on the premise that organs should imitate
orchestras or the more romantic and colorful organs in France and England. Casavant turned away from these false imitative
practices to build instruments that did not attempt to be anything other than
an organ. The Grace Church organ embodies that tonal philosophy.

The Casavant at Grace Church
represents a more Baroque style, but it is not bound to the music of Buxtehude,
Bach, or Handel.  In this concert, our
three organists will demonstrate the instrument’s amazing flexibility and
richness with music from the Baroque to the twentieth century.  Today, authenticity and performance practice
are central values for audiences and musicians alike. Come experience both in your
own backyard: the beauty of great music on the Casavant organ in the great
space of Grace Episcopal Church, 130 First Avenue, Nyack, NY.

A
"Meet-the-Artists" reception follows the concert.
