The Nyack Library Soul Food & African - American Entrepreneurs & Executives Celebration is a series of forums for the public to discuss their career goals and seek advice from professionals in various fields. The discussion will cover discrimination in the workplace.  Members of the community are invited to attend to discuss their experiences with racism and discrimination and how workplace diversity has had a positive influence on their life.


The goal is to share solutions on how to succeed against all obstacles. Panelists from diverse backgrounds will speak and then answer any questions from the public.  Registration is required.

Judge Walter Rivera, Partner, Rivera & Colon, LLP


Judge Walter Rivera serves as the Town Justice of the Greenburgh Town Court in Westchester County. He is a member of the Puerto Rican Bar Association, the National Hispanic Bar Association and the fraternity Omega Psi Phi’s Omicron Chapter from Columbia University. He is also a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School (J.D. 1979) and a graduate of Columbia University (B.A. 1976). Judge Rivera’s law firm represents “small and mid-sized businesses as outside counsel in corporate governance, contracts, lease negotiations, contract preparation and/or review, negotiations, and business disputes“ said a representative from his law firm.

The café serves Mediterranean and Caribbean cuisines and offers diners live music from reggae and jazz, to performances from the Palisades Opera.  Ms. Cepeda attended college and law school in New York City.

Tony Dandridge, Richard Clarke and Jeff Eason are owners of Off the Hook of Haverstraw.  Tony Dandridge, a retired NYPD detective.  Off the Hook menu includes: fried fish, steamed fish, fried chicken, shrimp and sides like mac & cheese and greens.

Omar Hawthorne  serves  the company’s ‘Think Tank, ’  an advisory  group  to the  President  which  is  comprised  of  enterprising  and   bright   young  people.  He  also  serves  as a  board member for  The Society  For  the  Advancement  of  the  Caribbean  Diaspora. CFE (Certified Franchise Executive) is a designation bestowed by the International Franchise Association.


Mark Rothenberg, Chair, Rockland SCORE


Mark Rothenberg will discuss “What it Takes to Start a Business”. Rockland SCORE’s new headquarters is at RCC (Rockland Community College). Please attend to learn about the services they have to offer.  The SCORE Association is a national organization with 350 chapters.


 


LaTeeka Mosley, Tax Accountant & Owner of Bagfiend.Com.


Bagfiend.com sells handbags at street fairs and flea markets. They also host bag parties. Ms. Mosley is a graduate of Kaplan University and has a B.S. in Accounting. LaTeeka Mosley will moderate the panel discussion. More panelists from our community will be confirmed.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
