The legendary Armory Show, 100 Years on… Rockland’s roll in it

Called the most important American art show in the 20th century.


The 1913 Armory show in New York City introduced Modern Art to the American public. It was a controversial sensation, the visionary echo’s of which are still heard today.


 


Amongst the Artists introduced to many in America for the first time, Picasso, Munch, Duchamp, Van Gogh, Kandinsky were two Rocklanders that produced and participated in the organization and one young artist who, selling his first painting at this show started a journey that would make him one of the most loved and iconic of American artists’ Edward Hopper.


 


Mark Waller, dealer, historian, author, and director of Gallery Moderne in Piermont New York will give a presentation at the Hopper House, Nyack on the 100th anniversary of the opening day. It will give a brief outline of the show, its beginnings and an insight to the important roll played by these Rocklanders.
