Nyack, NY, November 4-30, 2012-- Maria Luisa Gifts at 77 South Broadway in Nyack is featuring original Hudson Valley pastel paintings by Rachel Avenia. The exhibit is in the lower level of ML Gifts and runs from November 4th through the 30th. An artist's reception is scheduled for Thursday, November 8th from 6pm-8pm and the public is invited.

Rachel Avenia is a fine artist from Oradell, NJ, previously residing in Pomona, NY. A former Nyack Boat Club member and sailor, Avenia spent countless hours on the river, giving her a unique perspective and an intimate view of the river. In addition to sailing, Avenia enjoys hiking the Hudson River Valley. These views and more are featured in her latest paintings.

Working exclusively in pastels, Avenia creates seascape and landscape paintings that focus on capturing the light and atmosphere of the sky. Avenia has been juried into several regional shows including the 2012 Salamagundi non-member's show and the Piermont Flywheel Gallery's recent exhibit "Atttitude". More of Avenia's work can be seen online at www.rachelavenia.com.

Maria Luisa Boutique and ML Gifts and Accessories, celebrating 25 years in Nyack, are located side by side at 75-77 South Broadway. The stores offer women's clothing, accessories and unique gifts. For more information about the exhibit or Maria Luisa, visit www.marialuisaboutique.com or call 845-353-4122.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
