LAURIE PEEK "ENVIRONS" PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT:
A reception will be held on Sunday, January 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
Finding the extraordinary in the ordinary, Laurie Peek’s photographs take a closer look at everyday objects and environments in Piermont and the surrounding vicinity. Her unassuming subjects – wet leaves, a crushed can, parking lots, watery reflections – help us see our world afresh as she transforms the mundane into the magical.
With an MFA in Photography (Visual Studies Workshop / SUNY Buffalo), Laurie Peek has been a teacher, photo librarian, photojournalist, PR, and fine art photographer.
She has covered NYC metro news, features, and national political races. She was a staff photographer for NYC’s Dept. of General Services, documenting the city’s community gardens, housing, and Mayor Ed Koch. Her journalistic work has appeared in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Brooklyn Paper, The Progressive, The Village Voice, City Limits, and 2003 Oscar-nominated documentary film Tupac: Resurrection.
After a second career selling creative services to the corporate world and raising three boys, Peek returned to her fine arts roots and has been exhibiting her photography in Hudson Valley solo and group shows. She lives in Tappan and is active in local environmental and civic causes.
