Riso Challenging White for Nyack Mayor

Incumbent Nyack Mayor Jennifer Laird White appears as a Democrat and Beth Riso appears on the Green Party line in an updated list of Rockland County candidates for the Nov. 5 general election.

Nyack Major Jennifer Laird White will face opposition for re-election this fall. 

Beth Riso of Nyack will be on the ballot as a Green Party candidate for the general election Nov. 5.

"The democratic process is important," said White, a Democrat. "It's good to challenge, for people to discuss real issues. It can only be a positive thing."

Riso is a a former special education teacher who works in real estate. She is a member of the Orangetown Environmental Committee who has been outspoken about the need for regulating the use of leafblowers in Nyack. At the time of this report, she had not returned a call from Patch.

Riso was included on an updated list of candidates for elections on the Nov. 5 ballot released Tuesday by Rockland County Democratic Commissioner of Elections Kristen Zebrowski Stavisky . The list is expected to be posted on the Rockland County Board of Elections web page this week. 

Stavisky and Republican Commissioner of Elections Louis C. Babcock also announced Tuesday in addition to normal operating hours, the Rockland County Board of Elections offices will be open the following dates and times solely for residents applying for absentee ballots.

  • Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 24 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Monday, Oct. 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to noon
