Trees, utility lines take a hit with high winds, rain throughout Rockland Wednesday afternoon

Wednesday afternoon was one of those times when you're glad if you don't have to travel.

pounded Rockand County, knocking down trees and utility lines throughout the area. Down trees forced the closure of Route 303 in Orangeburg and Route 9W north of Route 304 on the way from New City to Haverstraw during the height of the storm.

In Nyack, emergency officials closed a section of Broadway to pedestrian and vehicle traffic as they inspected scaffolding at the Nyack YMCA.

But just as the storm can to a sudden end around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, the sun came out in many areas. Patch contributors Kenny Flynn of New City, Angela Gaul of New City and Sam Speer of Nyack each spotted rainbows that suddenly dominated the sky after the storm.

Flynn, Gaul and Speer each captured photos of the rainbows they saw in different locations.
