Update: Power Restoration Could Take Days

O&R: some homes will not see power until Nov. 4 or 5

Residents' experiences and O&R reports concerning power outages are not in tune with one another.

According to the O&R outage map, thousands of customers throughout Nyack remain without power. But residents in the affected areas—Front Street, North Midland Avenue, Sickles Avenue and the Village Gate condominiums—have electricity.

"I've just spoken with residents in many of the last reported outage areas... and they all say they’re power is back," said Richard Kavesh, Nyack's mayor. "I'm just hoping [O&R's] information is out of date, and that no customers remain without power in Nyack."

O&R officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Although the major roads are clear and snow stopped falling Saturday night, an overwhelming number of local homes remain in the dark.

O&R Utilities is reporting that close to 32,000 customers in Rockland remain without elecricity—and some homes may not see juice for days.

Currently, thousands of Nyackers are affected, with the majority of blackouts focused downtown and just west of downtown. Outages are less severe going north and south; an estimated 75 Upper Nyack homes are in the dark, and only a handful of Piermonters are booting up generators.

About 90 percent of customers will see power restored by midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 2, O&R said. The other 10 percent will have electrcity by midnight on Friday, Nov. 4.

To speed up the restoration process, O&R is relying on local contractors and mutual aid crews from as far away as Florida, officials said.
