Rockland Resident Makes NY Veteran's Hall of Fame

Charles "Charlie" Maushardt of Blauvelt is a father of three and with six grandchildren is a member of the Nam Knights Motorcycle Club of the Hudson Valley.

New York State Sen. David Carlucci announced the that lifelong Rockland County resident Charles “Charlie” Maushardt as the 2013 recipient of the New York State Senate’s Veteran’s Hall of Fame Award.

“The Senate takes this opportunity to honor the brave men and women who serve our nation and protect our freedom as members of the military,” said Carlucci.  “The Senate Veteran’s Hall of Fame pays tribute to all who serve, so it is only fitting and deserving that we recognize Charlie Maushardt for his selfless sacrifice to make his community a better place to live.”

Maushardt lives in Blauvelt with his wife of 41 years, Marianne, who he has three sons and six grandchildren with.

He is a graduate of the Tappan Zee High School class of 1969 and served the U.S. Army while fighting in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971, for which he was given a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and one Overseas Bar with Star.

In addition to his service in U.S. Army, Maushardt is an active member in his community having served on several veterans organizations like:

  • Vietnam Veterans of America, where he served as President from 1992-1994 
  • Raymond DeMeola VFW Post #1615 in Blauvelt
  • John Perry American Legion Post #1044 in Sparkill 
  • Nam Knights Motorcycle Club since 1991

The Rockland County Veterans Coordinating Council named him as the 1995-1996 Rockland County Veteran of the Year for his work with these organizations. 

Maushardt has been president of the Hudson Valley Chapter of the Nam Knights Motorcycle Club—a group of military veterans, law enforcement officials and Patriots—since 2000 and has become well known for his service to the Rockland community. 

The club raised more than $100,000 for local charities in Rockland under Maushardt’s leadership by hosting events like food drives for People to People, annual Make-A-Wish Foundation benefits, and fundraisers for POW-MIA and more.
