Update: 450 Nyack O&R Customers Regain Power

Downtown area hit by outages; several businesses close their doors

Orange and Rockland Utilties says a there are currently about 450 of its customers in Nyack without power because of a lightning strike that knocked down wires at High Avenue and Midland Avenue.

O&R anticipates having power restored by about 3:30 p.m.

The loss of power is currently impacting around 500 customers in Nyack, although O&R does not have information on its outage map.

A number of downtown businesses have ushered patrons out of their stores; with some fire alarm and suppression systems affected, having people in the building is a liability.

Several businesses and apartments in downtown Nyack remain powerless.

Readers have noted the power at came and went briefly, and that a transformer blew at the Park and Bridge intersection. O&R was at the scene earlier.

A handful of businesses near the Main Street-Broadway intersection in Nyack lost power this afternoon and remain without electricity.

The outage occurred at around 12:20 p.m. and are two of the affected eateries, and cannot serve hot food or drinks or operate their cash registers.

The intersection's streetlight and pedestrians signs remain unaffected, and traffic is flowing smoothly—or at least normally—downtown. does have power.
