POLL: Too Dangerous to Trick-or-Treat?

Clarkstown, Orangetown police ask residents to limit Halloween activities to daylight hours; region still recovering from closed roads, downed trees and wires and power outages.

The snow from Saturday's storm has stopped falling, but the region is still reeling from the unexpected squall.

Tens of thousands of customers throughout Rockland remain without power, a and today. And there's anxiety about possible Halloween dangers—Clarkstown and Orangetown police are asking parents not to let their kids out after dark, and other officials are fretting, too.

"At 4 p.m. today, the kids are going to start trick or treating, [but] there's still debris in the streets," said Wayne Ballard, Clarkstown Highway Superintendent. "There should be more parental supervision tonight."

"The Town of Orangetown Police are requesting that all town residents restrict their Halloween activities to daylight hours. This request is being made for the safety of our residents due to several hazards that still remain from the Oct. 29 snow storm. These hazards include areas with no street lights, residents with no power, traffic signals that are not operational, and slippery ground from snow still on the ground."
