Piermonters Save Life, Are Honored

Volunteer firefighters, EMTs receive awards

Thanks to the acumen of a few quick-thinking Piermonters, a long-time resident is alive and healthy.

On June 15, 2011, Piermonter Clark "Clarky" Holmes had a heart attack—and Piermont volunteer firefighters and EMT workers were at his side in three minutes, administering baby asprin and taking all necessary steps to ensure safety.

"If it had not been for the quick and above-capable efforts of our volunteers, [Clarky] would not have lived," said Piermont mayor Chris Sanders at Tuesday evening's board meeting.

Volunteers Dan Goswick, Candice Goswick, Dan Goswick, Jr., Kyle Weis, Michael Bettman and Joe Palkovic all aided in the rescue, and were awarded plaques and honors. The accolades were presented by Sanders, fire chief Kevin Fagan and police chief Michael O'Shea.

"I can't appreciate what they've done for me [more]," Homles said. "I'll be forever grateful."
