Today: Ozone Alert Issued for Rockland County

Health officials suggest limiting strenuous outdoor activities

The Rockland County Department of Health has issued an Air Quality Alert for Wednesday, citing high levels of ozone in the air.

The Health Department notes exposure to excess ozone can lead to irritated eyes and nose, shortness of breath and chest pain, fatigue and other symptoms. To reduce exposure and minimize effects, residents are encouraged to limit outdoor time during peak ozone hours—from about 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

"Performing vigorous exercise outdoors such as running also makes a person more likely to experience symptoms from exposure to ozone,” said Dr. Facelle, Rockland County Commissioner of Health.
