Nyack Voted One of America's Coolest Small Towns

Budget Travel Magazine has marked Nyack on the map as a place to visit.

"Nyack is one of America's coolest small towns."

Nyackers can now say this to envious friends and relatives and pass it off as fact, not opinion.

In the September issue of Budget Travel Magazine—a periodical that offers trip planning, reviews and city guides—Nyack was voted America's eighth "coolest small town."

Some 439,411 voters took part in the survey, and nearly 10,000 voted for Nyack.

Budget Travel has a statement on the site that explains how and why towns (or in this case, villages) are chosen:

"The town must have a population of under 10,000—we're talking small towns, no big cities. It's also got to be on the upswing, a place that's beginning to draw attention—and new residents—because of the quality of life, arts and restaurant scene or proximity to nature. And cool doesn't mean quaint. We want towns with an edge, so think avante-garde galleries, not country stores."

Budget Travel cited Nyack's Hopper House, impressive Victorian homes, Hook Mountain and the Hudson as major draws.

Coming in first was Ely, Minnesota, followed by Cloverdale, California.
