Nyack Merchants Prepare For SeptemberFest

It's that time of the year again.

Nyack will be kicking off the fall season Sunday, Sept. 12 with SeptemberFest, a street fair that showcases the village's businesses and merchants and attracts thousands.

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and transform Main Street and Broadway into a thoroughfare of celebration and excitement. The event—which has been taking place for nearly two decades—is  sponsored by the Nyack Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber President Carlo Pellegrini said the festival is designed to commemorate the start of autumn in the Hudson Valley.

"This is the first street fair every fall up here," he said.

The event continually draws a significant crowd, too.

"We attract more than 20,000 visitors to Nyack each year [with street fairs]," Pellegrini explained.

Pellegrini said SeptemberFest illustrates Nyack's uniqueness.

"We are hoping those who visit us on September 12 take with them that Nyack is a great place to visit… and a better place to live," he said.

SeptemberFest has been known to attract visitors from all over Rockland County, and from as far away as New York City. And as always, this year's attendees will be treated to wide array of experiences; Nyacks's shops, retailers and restaurants will be on hand displaying their wares.

Additionally, artisans from the area and neighboring states will be showcasing their work. Julianne Williams, the organization's co-president, said she expects more than 200 artists to attend.

The fair will also feature live music and activities for children.

SeptemberFest is one of several gatherings that take place during the calendar year. Pellegrini said other events include a Springfest in April, continuing farmers' markets, the annual Halloween parade and Light Up the Night.
