Bridge Work May Cause Delays

Tappan Zee bridge maintenance work continues; one east-bound lane closed

The New York State Department of Transportation is on the Tappan Zee Bridge today, replacing steel plates to keep the 56-year-old span operating.

As of 1:30 p.m. Thursday, one east-bound lane on the crossing is closed with minimal congestion.

The work is part of a more-than-$100 million project that equips the bridge with updated infrastructure; it is meant to keep the span in shape until the proposed replacement—which will run an estimated $16 billion—is underway.
