Elderly Resident Rescued After Fall Down Ridge

Police dog helps find Tappan Zee Manor resident, 90; volunteer firefighters bring him to safety.

A resident of Tappan Zee Manor in Central Nyack had to be rescued from a steep embankment alongside the assisted-living home after he strayed off and fell, according to Clarkstown police.

The man, 90, was not seriously injured in the fall, but he needed help from volunteers of the Central Nyack Fire Department to get back up the embankment. Police said firefighters used rescue gear and a rescue basket to get the man to safety.

Police said the man was noticed missing around 7:30 p.m. and was found down the embankment at about 10:25 p.m. The man was found with the assistance of a Clarkstown police dog and he was taken to Nyack Hospital by members of the Nyack Community Ambulance Corps for evaluation.
