151 New Citizens Sworn in at Rockland County Ceremony

Immigrants represent 42 different countries.

The Oath of Allegiance was administered to 151 new U.S. citizens at the latest naturalization ceremony in Rockland County.

Rockland County Clerk Paul Piperator hosted the ceremony at the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona, where Judge Victor Alfieri Jr. served as the officiating state Supreme Court justice.

The keynote speaker was Dr. Ram Nagubandi, commissioner of the Rockland County Commission on Human Rights. Organ transplant recipients Michael Prendergast and Lauren Shields spoke on behalf of the New York Organ Donor Network.  Michael Mark performed several musical selections, while hundreds observed the ceremony.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
