STAC Names Monica Wendel Assistant Professor

Monica Wendel, has been named assistant professor of composition and creative writing at St. Thomas Aquinas College, announces Dr. Robert Murray, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.

Wendel, a resident of Bushwick (NY), graduated magna cum laude from the State University of New York at Geneseo, where she studied philosophy with a minor in creative writing. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in poetry writing from New York University, where she was awarded Goldwater and Starworks teaching fellowships.

"Professor Wendel is a prolific writer who also happens to be an excellent writing teacher to students at all levels,” said Murray. “An acclaimed poet, she brings lots of enthusiasm to our already strong program in creative writing."

Wendel (pictured) joined the St. Thomas Aquinas College community in September 2010 as an adjunct professor and transitioned to visiting professor in 2011. She teaches writing courses including Intermediate Composition and Writing about Literary Types. In 2013, she published a poetry manuscript entitled No Apocalypse which was previously named the winner of Georgetown Review Press' poetry manuscript prize.
