This Weekend: Plant Sale, Wild Edibles Walk

A few events taking place this weekend around the county

With the work week nearing its end, check out this list of just a few things you can do around the county this weekend:

  • When/Where - Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at A. MacArthur Barr Middle School, located at 143 Church Street, Nanuet.
  • Why Go - Help Nanuet Boy Scout Troop 33 raise money for troop activities at their sixth annual yard sale. Snacks will be sold, along with a wide range of items, from furniture to toys to clothes and more.
  • Pricing - Free

  • When/Where - Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 507 N. Broadway, Nyack.
  • Why Go - Pick up a variety of perennials and shrubs from  members’ gardens, as well as organic seedings from Hook Mountain Growers, Inc. The money raised goes to the Garden Club of Nyack, who supports the Nyack Community Garden, the Butterfly Garden at Memorial Park, planting at the Hopper House, the Old Stone Meeting House and the YMCA in Nyack, the South Nyack Village Hall and the Fellowship of Reconciliation.
  • Pricing - Free

  • When/Where - Saturday 1-8 p.m. at Presence of Piermont, located at 499 Piermont Avenue, Piermont.
  • Why Go - Preview furniture, see full lines of what’s available and bring in your own color swatches and measurements. Designer Jennifer Fox will also be on hand to answer questions. You can also sign up for an in-home consultation for $50, whereas it’s normally $150.
  • Pricing - Free

  • When/Where - Saturday 7 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, located at 112 North Main Street, Pearl River.
  • Why Go - Enjoy a musical performed by the Sacristy Singers Youth Choir of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
  • Pricing - Free

  • When/Where - Sunday 1 p.m. at Cropsey Community Farm, located at 220 South Little Tor Road, New City.
  • Why Go - Join Paul Tappenden from Suburban Foragers for a walk around to identify wild, edible and medicinal plants, rediscover lost foods, and learn tips on how to cook and prepare them.
  • Pricing - $10 per person, $5 per child under 13.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
