This Weekend: Irish Music, Painting Workshop

Here are some events taking place this weekend around the county

With the work week nearing its end, check out this list of just a few things you can do around the county this weekend:

  • When/Where - Friday all day at Gregory Chiropractic, located at 5 Grandview Avenue, Nanuet
  • Why Go - Donate items to the office’s Adopt-A-Platoon program, and they will mail them out to three different troops serving overseas. They are collecting a wide range of items, from toiletries to magazines to food, and they’re also asking those that donate to include letters to the troops.
  • Pricing - Free.

  • When/Where - Friday 8 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, located at 81 Hunt Road, Orangeburg.
  • Why Go - Check out the free concert featuring oldies, Irish music and class rock performed by the Tommy Dunn & Jane Lynch Band along with guest stars Dayna Marie, and the Verlin School of Irish Step Dancers. This is part of the Town of Orangetown Summer Concert Series.
  • Pricing - Free.

  • When/Where - Meet ate the New City Library Saturday 9 a.m. to carpool to the trail near the Bear Mountain Bridge.
  • Why Go - Walk with Doc Bayne, a former historian at Sterling Forest State Park, around Iona Island to learn about its hidden foundations and how it was a part of the country’s war defense. Registration is required. Call 845-634-4997, ext. 139.
  • Pricing - Free.

  • When/Where - Saturday 10-11:30 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. at Cropsey Community Farm, located at 220 S. Little Road, New City.
  • Why Go - Take a painting workshop en plein air, or “in the open air,” to learn some basic drawing and painting techniques while taking in the beauty of the farm. The kids and family session is from 10-11 a.m., and the adult and teen session is from 4-6 p.m.
  • Pricing - $25 for Rockland Family Alliance members, $30 for non-members.

  • When/Where - Sunday 7 a.m. at Germonds Pool, located at 165 Germonds Road, West Nyack.
  • Why Go - Attend the second annual event in collaboration with the Long Island Sound Swim Across America club with proceeds going to benefit United Hospice of Rockland and cancer research programs at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York Presbyterian Babies Hospital and the Cancer Support Team.
  • Pricing - Donations accepted.
