Nyack Walgreens is Open [POLL] [UPDATE]

Pharmacy just off intersection of Route 9W and Route 59 now in operation

UPDATE (July 27, 2012): The Nyack Walgreens is now open. There's a new sign at the entrance to the store announcing its opening — along with plenty of balloons.

--

Store hours will be 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., but may shift to 24-hours in the future, officials said. Walgreens will feature a pharmacy and photo development area, and offer an assortment of groceries and household items, as well.

The store, located at "the gateway to Nyack" on Rt. 59, was build from the ground up and replaced the iconic Hilltop restaurant.

and construction of Walgreens began in August of 2011, but only after a protracted back-and-forth with village officials. Attorneys representing the business that the Walgreens and consequent signage would create traffic congestion, unsafe conditions for drivers and pedestrians and detract from the region's "character."

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
