On the Street: Nyack Business Roundup

A look at what a few local businesses have on the horizon

Many of your favorite Nyack businesses, and maybe some you don’t know, have noteworthy events coming up soon. Here’s a look at a few of them.

Brick University

Funny Business, the comic book and toy store on Main Street, has started Brick University, a series Lego-building classes for all ages. In previous classes, the students created a scene from Star Wars that now sits in the front window of Funny Business.

The classes go beyond following instructions on the box and help kids, or adults, build whatever scenes come to their imagination. Currently, the classes are working on a pirate theme that possibly includes aliens. Students from various classes can contribute to one large scene.

The classes are in a new workshop rented out on the second floor of the Lydecker Building, practically across the street from Funny Business. On Wednesdays, they also host free builds where people can create whatever they want.

Flash Sale

Hacienda World, the gallery featuring a wide variety of art, is having a flash sale on this weekend.

Owner Karim Deen said items in the store don’t normally go on sale, but on Saturday and Sunday this weekend, everything in the store will be 20 percent off from noon until 4 p.m. both days.

New Bakery Open

Flour Buds Bakery offers a bunch of gluten- and allergy-free goodies using only natural and organic ingredients. The bakery makes items, like cookies, tarts, breads, assorted bars and much more. They also can make wedding cakes and items for other special occasions.

The bakery had its soft opening last Sunday, and will be open each day this weekend, as well as Monday. It will then be closed Tuesday through Thursday.

Record Fair

Nyack’s newest record store, Vinyl Lounge, will have quite a bit more records for sale this weekend than normal. That’s because outside vendors will be selling at the store on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In addition, the store will also have raffles where guests can win prizes such as a turntable. Read more here.
