Multiple Sclerosis Center Opens At Nyack Hospital

Facility designed to cut travel time MS patients face to get treatment.

Nyack Hospital has opened its Weill Cornell Multiple Sclerosis Center, a collaborative effort between the Judith Jaffe Multiple Sclerosis Center at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Nyack Hospital.

The center offers multiple sclerosis care to all residents in the Hudson Valley area, eliminating the need to travel long distances to receive comprehensive care for multiple sclerosis.

“It is our continued goal to provide our patients with the utmost in service and care and it is through the collaboration between Nyack Hospital and NYPH/Weill Cornell Medical Center, that our commitment to quality treatment close to home is fulfilled,” said Matthew E. Fink, MD, interim chairman of the Department of Neurology and Neuroscience at Weill Cornell Medical College.

Timothy Vartanian, MD, PhD, director of the Judith Jaffe Multiple Sclerosis Center at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, said the organization has been spearheading several promising initiatives and is “on the threshold of research breakthroughs that will offer our patients a better quality of life.”

The center is under the direction of Jai Perumal, MD, a board-certified neurologist with additional specialized training in demyelinating disorders including multiple sclerosis.

“Our hopes with the new Weill Cornell Multiple Sclerosis Center at Nyack Hospital is to continue to grow and expand the resources we provide to our patients with MS and other demyelinating disorders to include clinical trials that patients can choose to participate in and specific rehabilitation programs within a multi-faceted comprehensive center,” Perumal said.
