Local Summer Camp Choices: Magic, Circus, Horses and More

As we get into the last few months of the school year, thoughts of the summer are near. Sprinklers, Frisbee, water parks and relaxing are the fun parts—but kids get bored quickly. To help remedy the situation, Patch has some summer camp suggestions.

There’s something for every budget, schedule and interest. Check out the following places:

Magic School: West Nyack

• Back from his popular show at the Nyack Farmer’s Market is , ready to teach your kids how to perform their own tricks
• Where/When: Steeltoes Dance Studio in West Nyack; July 5 through August 11 on Tuesdays and Thursdays (no class on 7/26 & 7/28); 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.  or 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Circus Camp: Nyack

• The all-year is a day camp for kids who want to learn to juggle, tight-rope walk, clown around and more
• Where/When: Grace Episcopal Church in Nyack; June 27 through August 12; Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. for ages 5 - 7 and 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. for ages 7 - 14.

Deer Mountain Day Camp: Pomona

• Whether you want swimming, boating, sports or arts, Deer Mountain has it all

Camp Yomi and Yomi Sr.: Pearl River

• Managed by the JCC of Rockland, Camp Yomi and Yomi Sr. offer a wide range of specialized activities from sports to filmmaking, and even have overnight adventures for the older kids.
• Where/When: Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds; June 29 through August 19 (2-8 week sessions available)
• Ages: Kindergarten through 6th grade

Summer Horsemanship: Orangeburg

• Learn all about horses from bathing to riding and beyond

Coupe Dance Camp: Nanuet

• For the budding dancer, this camp offers lessons in multiple forms of dance, plus acting, theatre, nutrition and trips to see professional performances.
