Boulders Get Set to Open Baseball Season at Home on May 16

Can-Am League pro team to play rival Newark Bears at Provident Bank Park in Pomona as they hit the 2013 season.

After leading the Can-Am League in attendance in 2012 with 161,375 fans at Provident Bank Park in Pomona, the Rockland Boulders are getting set to kick off the 2013 season.

Among the highlights on this year’s schedule, the Boulders will be opening the season at home for the first time when the Newark Bears visit Provident Bank Park on Thursday, May 16. The 7 p.m. game will be followed by the first Fireworks Extravaganza of the new season and the regular fireworks schedule will include most Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the year.

Other recurring dates on the schedule are the Friday Night Boulder Bash, featuring dollar beers, and Sunday Family Day, with kids running the bases after the game, presented by Sports Authority.

Highlighting the promotions in 2013 is the 3rd Annual Collector’s Coin Giveaway presented by Clarkstown Coin and Jewelry on June 15. This year’s Limited Edition coin will feature the BoulderBird. Dave & Buster’s presents the return of Mini Bat night, when the Winnipeg Goldeyes visit on June 20, and the Cultural Heritage series returns with Irish Night on July 27, including a live post-game performance by U2Nation at the Coors Light Bridge Bar.

The schedule contains holiday games on Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day, as well as five school and summer camp day matinees.

Under the guidance of new manager Jamie Keefe, the Boulders will face a slate of CanAm foes that includes the defending champ Quebec Capitales, the New Jersey Jackals, Newark Bears and expansion Trois-Rivieres Aigles, as well as American Association opponents from Winnipeg, Fargo-Moorhead (ND), Lincoln (NE), Kansas City (KS), St. Paul (MN), and Wichita (KS).

“Opening Night is a tradition in baseball filled with anticipation, pageantry and excitement,” said team president Ken Lehner. “As we embark on our third season of BouldersBaseball, we look forward to not only welcoming our fans back to Provident Bank Park on May 16, but also welcoming our new manager Jamie Keefe to town.”
