The Penguin Plunge will be held in Memorial Park ub Nyack on Sunday - March 3 from noon - 2 p.m.
AS anyone who has coordinated events, charitable or not, knows the thrill of having the big day come closer! We are only eleven days away from our main event and being an outdoor event, we are so dependent on the weather, so that ten day forecast will become a source of obsession as the days grow closer so we are hoping for great temperatures and sunshine.
Some people are surprised by this, because what does it matter when you are going in the water?!? That is true, for the "penguins" but it is nice when you are enjoying the whole event to be able to walk around without getting wet until you want to.
The Penguin Plunge is an entire event, we start at 12noon and go to 2PM, with the actual plunge going off at 1:45. But it is the whole event that we love, because it is basically a big party for the families (whose children were highlighted in prior blogs) and for the people who are taking on this challenge, whether for the first time or as veterans!
Our entertainment committee has put together a great show. There will be the gerat music from our local band Blarney Stew; the Lower Hudson Valley Youth Chorus - straight from performing at Madison Square Garden,; the world record holding fastest talker, inspirational speaker and author Fran Capo; American Strongman Gerard Benderoth; and Sassy the Clown and friends from RSVP of Rockland. There is food and fun to be had for everywhere, there is no charge to come though donations are deeply or should we say "warmly" appreciated! There is no charge to take the plunge but we have a suggested amount of $20 so that you can have a commemorative tshirt.
But it always goes back to the weather. I would like to announce that the Penguin Plunge will be Friday's Forecaster of the Day tomorrow, February 22 on WPIX Channel 11. This segment will be at approximately 8:40AM so you are cordially invited to see if I can get the weather right!
