The Nyack Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Holiday Lights of Nyack celebration on Friday, Nov. 30 at the Veterans Park Gazebo on Main and Cedar Streets in the center of Nyack.

Children helped trim the Christmas tree, which was lit at the end of the night.

Mayor Jen Laird-White served as master of ceremonies. Executive Director of People to People Diane Serratore attended. There were several boxes laid out to collect non-perishables for the food pantry. Serratore and Laird-White even joined in one of the musical performances.

There were live performances of holiday carols by the Lower Hudson Valley Youth Chorus under the direction of Jared Rosenblum. There was also free hot chocolate by Nyack’s chocolate emporium Chocolaterie and free hot cider by Mostly Myrtle’s, a vendor at the Nyack Farmers’ Market.

Nyack actor and JohnnyCakes host Dave Blau performed a reading of the Dr. Seuss classic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” and Santa made a special appearance aboard the Highland Hose Company’s antique fire truck.

Hickory Dickory Dock contributed lights for the holiday tree

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
