Ten enlarged prints of photographs showing Nyack and Upper Nyack in the 1890s will be on display at the headquarters of the Historical Society of the Nyacks, beginning with an opening reception on Saturday, November 19, from 1:00 to 4:00. The show will be open at those same hours on the following day, Sunday, November 20, and on third Saturdays thereafter, as well as by appointment.
A gift of Jack and Cathy Stockmeyer, the enlargements were produced by Jack from glass plate negatives collected by his father, Nyack photographer Lewis Stockmeyer, from the work of Dr. Harvey Gilchrist, a local dentist and early photographer. Come and see the brilliant detail captured by glass plate technology, revealed in these splendid digital enlargements.
The Historical Society of the Nyacks headquarters are in Suite L-2 of the Depew House on Piermont Avenue behind Nyack Library. For more information, call 845-358-0552, and visit www.nyackhistory.org.
