Climbing Poetree- A Night of Performance Art featuring "Hurricane Season: Hidden Messages in Water

  • Join VCS Gay Pride Rockland at the Nyack Center for a Night of Climbing Poetree

On the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Alixa and Naima set out with an all-women crew in a bus converted to run on recycled vegetable oil on a mission to use the power of art to draw vital connections between shared struggles and common solutions in a critical moment in human history. By the end of 2009, they travelled over 10,000 miles, delivering "Hurricane Season" to over 8,800 people in more than 50 communities nationwide, and featuring 150 community-based organizations who shared their visionary work in time desperate for transformation and ripe with possibility. To date, Climbing PoeTree has catalyzed more than 500 crowds in over 75 cities--from Oakland to Miami, South Africa to Cuba--

“Last night was such a powerful catalyst of soul r/evolution… I was so deeply moved, inspired, healed and transformed by the love you made visible. Your work embodies the genius that Alice Walker describes as artists and as witnesses for the future... Thank you for being courageous and willing enough to walk your path, live your visions and share your glimmering love lights with the world. Trust that you are shifting universal consciousness. Know that you are a resuscitating once suffocated minds and reminding us that we are all possibilities shaping the entire universe.” ~ L’Erin Asanteewa, Atlanta
