CARNEGIE ROOM JAZZ CONCERTS FALL SCHEDULE

Friday, September 28, 7:30 pm

Vocalist and NEA Jazz Master Sheila Jordan with Cameron Brown

Sheila Jordan began singing in Detroit jazz clubs as a young teenager in the early 1940s. Deeply influenced by Charlie Parker and the sounds of bebop, she developed a vocal concept more akin to instrumentalists than to other singers, and has continued forging her own path straight into jazz history. For the past 10 years, Sheila and Cameron Brown have enjoyed a special musical collaboration that extends from many club appearances to several recordings. Cameron combines adventurous yet grounded musical instincts with a smooth, almost effortless technique. His vibrant pulse and nimble solo lines make him an in-demand sideman in any setting, but paired with Sheila’s spellbinding vocals the results are magical.

Ted Rosenthal Trio:

All-Gershwin Program featuring Rhapsody in Blue

Since winning the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition in 1988, Ted Rosenthal has performed as a sideman with a host of jazz heavies and released 12 CDs as a leader, often featuring his brilliant writing and arranging. We are excited to present this wonderful artist, equally well-versed as a jazz or classical pianist, performing a specialty of his: an all-Gershwin program featuring unique treatments of these great American standards, capped off by his arrangement of Rhapsody in Blue for jazz trio. Not to be missed!

Friday, November 2, 7:30 pm

Pianist Alan Broadbent with Don Falzone, bass

Pianist and Grammy-winning arranger Alan Broadbent has long been a major force in jazz. His long resume of accomplishments includes accompanying Irene Kral on her exquisite vocal albums, contributing arrangements to Natalie Cole, playing piano with Charlie Haden's Quartet West, and many recordings under his own name.  A New Zealand native, Alan moved to the US and gained initial recognition with the Woody Herman Orchestra, and ultimately landed in LA where his career flourished. Recently – lucky us – Mr. Broadbent has made Nyack his home base, from which he tours regularly. We look forward to hearing what he and the great bassist Don Falzone have in store for us.

Sunday, November 11, 7:30 pm

Legendary Bassist Ron Carter

with Russell Malone, guitar and Donald Vega, piano

NEA Jazz Master and Grammy award winner Ron Carter is among the most original, prolific and  influential bassists in jazz.  Probably best known as the bassist with the Miles Davis Quintet for many years throughout the 1960s, Mr. Carter is also one of the most recorded bassists in history.  With more than 2,000 albums to his credit, he has recorded with many of music's greats including Tommy Flanagan, Gil Evans, Lena Horne, Bill Evans, B.B. King, the Kronos Quartet, Dexter Gordon, James Brown, Wes Montgomery, and many more.  Needless to say, we are thrilled to bring this great artist to the Carnegie Room -- the perfect acoustic setting to enjoy his musical conversations with the great guitarist Russell Malone, and dynamic pianist Donald Vega. See you there!

Friday, November 30, 7:30 pm

Scott Reeves Quintet with Duane Eubanks:

The Music of Clark Terry & Bob Brookmeyer

Trombonist and valve-man Scott Reeves is an outstanding performer with several recordings out as a leader, and sideman credits that include the Dave Liebman Big Band, the Vanguard Orchestra, and other top New York groups. He also a jazz educator and a prolific and inventive arranger, making him the ideal leader for this tribute to the great musical collaboration between  valve-trombonist and arranger Bob Brookmeyer and trumpeter Clark Terry. Scott’s foil in the front line will be the outstanding trumpeter Duane Eubanks, and a trio of New York’s finest musicians will keep things rolling.
