Beautiful Resistance: President of Palestinian Theater Association will speak on Peace Issues in Nyack

Dr. Abdelfattah Abusrour who is the founder of the Alrowwad Theater and Culture Center and President of the Palestinian Theater Association will be speaking at the Fellowship of Reconciliation in Nyack to discuss his way of promoting peace in Palestine through theater and art work with children in the Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem. Dr. Abusrour was born in the Aida refugee camp, educated in Paris he returned to Palestine and works to bring hope to Palestinians through theater and art. His theater programs have toured Europe and he has won many prestigious awards. The presentation at Fellowship of Reconcilliation will focus on his program of Beautiful Resistance, “ We do not have the luxury of despair, but the steadfast hope that we can make a beautiful change for our children and the generations to come".

 Join us for a presentation, followed by a lively discussion and refreshments. Donation of $15 will go to the Alrowwad Theater.

Bio: Abdelfattah Abusrour, PhD, is a writer, actor, and painter. He studied theatre in Paris and was a founding member of Paris Nord Theatre. In 1998, he founded, with some friends, Alrowwad Cultural and Theatre Center for Children in Aida Camp-Bethlehem. He has written numerous plays, among them Far Away from a Village Close By, which won first prize in London’s 2006 “Deir Yassin Remembered Festival.” He was the first Palestinian to be awarded an Ashoka Fellowship for his work in “Beautiful Resistance,” giving the children a possibility to express themselves through creative arts.
