7th Annual Jewish Book Festival: Daniel Asa Rose, Larry's Kidney

"Organ transplants are not usually the stuff of humor but Larry Feldman's story of his search for a kidney in China is bizarre, touching and funny. Chinese law forbids transplants to Westerners but being number 74,001 on the American transplant list, he decides to flee American medicine and try for an illegal kidney transplant.

Daniel Asa Rose, the cousin enlisted to assist Mr. Friedman in his attempt to get a kidney and a mail-order bride at the same time, will speak about their journey and the heartbreaking hilarity that ensued. While Mr. Rose was particularly conflicted and will speak about the ethical issues surrounding medical tourism, the crux of this adventure is about family members learning to reconcile in the wake of a life saving procedure in a foreign world. Join us as Mr. Rose also discusses the serious need for organ transplant reform."
