2012 Rockland Environmental Day

On Sunday, May 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Rockland County Solid Waste Management Authority will host its Third Annual Environmental Day, Living Green in Rockland at their facilities in Hillburn.

The event will feature over 30 exhibitors showcasing their environmental programs and services. Tours of Rockland’s Interactive Environmental Education and Recycling Center and Native Plants Demonstration Garden will be offered. Families will receive a reusable tote bag with environmental products and information.  Activities include an organic plant sale, viewing of the film Bag It, demonstrations on cooking with wild edibles and trail building, an awards ceremony to recognize recycling programs in Rockland, along with chances to win rain barrels, compost bins and other prizes.

Kids will enjoy the solar powered merry-go-round, balloon artist, environmental illustrator, airplane simulators, tattoo station and live music with the Bossy Frog Band. They will get a chance to meet the Plastic Bag Monster, plant-a-seed and learn about Rockland services at the county’s Command Vehicle and Fire Safety Truck.
