AT TZHS, 'Sugar Babies' Brings Down the House

Tappan Zee High School's spring musical attracts a talented cast and crew, content crowd

Everyone left laughing and singing after Tappan Zee's production of Sugar Babies this weekend.

Fabulously performed, the TZ Players outdid themselves with professional looking dance numbers, perfectly on-key vaudeville solos and a boy in drag so funny he could go audition for La Cage tomorrow.

Sugar Babies is a musical revue that tips its hat to vaudeville and variety shows. It received eight Tony nominations the year it debuted, and remained on Broadway for three years afterward, touring as a favorite among theater lovers after closing. Tappan Zee HS took the energy and flash that the original show had and amazed the lucky audience. The show was worth every penny.

Director, set designer, choreographer, and costume master edward clinton deserves an award for the work put into this show. Every detail was carefully thought out, from the special non-distracting side entrance for audience members who needed to use the restroom during the show to the black-light dance routine to finish Act I. Everyone involved in the production should be extremely proud of their achievement.

Audience members had nothing but praise for the hardworking cast. Everyone was enraptured and entranced, laughing often. The students were obviously having fun, making the show a true joy to watch.

"I have nothing to say except how great the show is,"  said Ruby Parsells, an audience member. "I love it all."

TZHS Freshman Jaclyn Wecht came to the show to support her friend.

"She's doing a great job," she said.

The music and dancing is the highlight of Sugar Babies. Pit member Soreya Scilipote, TZHS Sophomore trumpet player, said that the dancing is her favorite part, adding that she loves the melody of the pieces.

Greta Pucci, Clarkstown South Freshman, said that her favorite part was the jokes.
