Why Not Dredge the Old Piermont Channel As TZB Construction Starts?

Boating on the Hudson has a petition drive going.

It isn't going to be easy for boaters coming in and out of Piermont to avoid all that new New York bridge construction, points out Boating on the Hudson.

"Here is a solution to the problem that would not take a week to solve," writes John Vargo, publisher of boatingonthehudson.com, "digging out the  old channel that used to lead from the main channel to Piermont in front of Corranetta's Marina. It is far enough away from the TZ Bridge Construction to allow free and easy access to Piermont marinas!"

Why would New York State taxpayers want to pay to clean an old channel to reach the Piermont marinas?
