West Nyack: Vets Donate To Current Troops

The Korean War Veterans Rockland County Chapter gave the money to the West Nyack Post Office.

Dan Zevola and Thomas Desmond, president and secretary of the Korean War Veterans Rockland County Chapter, presented the with a check for $150 Saturday morning to pay for postage on packages to troops overseas as part of the Adopt-A-Platoon program.

Derek McLoughlin, supervisor for the , accepted the check.

Desmond said the money comes from the organization's funds, and giving the money to the post office was brought up in the agenda at a recent meeting. He said that back in November, the Veterans of Foreign Affairs Post 9215 of Upper Nyack donated a check to the post office for the same reason.

Rockland County Legislators Ed Day and Christopher Carey were on hand for the donation as well.

"This is very personal for me," Day said. "This is where I came to send things to my son Chris when he was over there, and it's where I'll come to send stuff to my other son Mike when he's away."
