Track The Snow In Nyack, Piermont: Check Out Updated Closures, Delays

Many major roads were closed overnight and Nyack Schools are closed Friday due to the winter storm that forced Gov. Andrew Cuomo to declare a statewide State of Emergency Thursday evening. 

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for Nyack, Piermont and the surrounding area that will remain in effect until 1 p.m. Friday.

The warning calls for "heavy snow, strong winds and dangerously cold wind chills" through Friday morning. 

Though only a light covering of snow fell Thursday morning, the projected accumulation could still be six to 10 inches. Temperatures are expected to drop into the teens overnight, with wind chills as low as minus-10 Friday morning.

As of 9 p.m., the Village of Nyack had not declared a snow emergency, but sent out a notice that it could do so later today. That would mean moving vehicles off the street and into approved parking areas in parts of the village. Find out more here

Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart said town officials are monitoring the situation and that Orangetown Town Hall is open 24 hours for those with an urgent need to warm up or to charge electronic devices. 

The Rockland County Legislature postponed its reorganization meeting, which had been scheduled for Thursday evening, until 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6. 

Rockland County Office of Fire and Emergency Services and Orange & Rockland Utilities issued warnings Tuesday regarding the projected snow and windy conditions. Rockland County’s Director of Fire & Emergency Services Gordon Wren warned of some dangers winter storms like this one can create.

Nyack Public Schools reopened as scheduled Thursday, but later cancelled all after school activities. South Orangetown classes resume Monday. 

The JCC Rockland in West Nyack announced it would close at 6 p.m. Thursday and reopen at noon Friday.

Closures and delays announced so far for Friday include:

  • Nyack Public Schools are closed
  • Nyack Library will open at 1 p.m. Friday
  • Dominican College is closed. All Friday classes and activities cancelled. 
  • St. Thomas Aquinas College is closed.  All Friday classes and activities cancelled.
  • Nyack Village Hall is closed.
  • The JCC Rockland in West Nyack will remain closed all day.
