On what was a windy and rather brisk April morning, residents in New York City and on up the Hudson River through Ossining got the thrill of a lifetime as the Space Shuttle Enterprise hitched a ride atop a 747 for a flyover, passing by the world's most recognizable skyline and then past the cliffs of the Palisades before returning for a safe landing at JFK airport in Queens.
Built in 1976 as a prototype, the ship was never be used on a real space mission but instead played a vital roll in NASA's high altitude test flights and other testing modalities.
