Photos: Shopping For a Shot Putter

Check out photos and details from Flywheel Park's weekend flea market; proceeds are aiding a local Olympic hopeful.

Piermont's John Hickey, Jr. is an Olympic hopeful.

The budding shot putter—who can toss the ball some 65 feet—has impressive Piermont pedigree: his father is the ex-chief of Empire Hose Company, and his grandmother, Ann Hickey, was the former commissioner of jurors for the county.

Hickey, Jr. got his chops at Tappan Zee High School, and moved on to compete at the collegiate level at school in Iowa. He suffered some setbacks—a weightlifting injury and twisted ankle junior year—but he's back at full strength.

In order to compete in the 2012 games, Hickey, Jr. must train rigorously and often. Unable to work full-time, proceeds from Sunday's flea market help support his goal.
