Nyack Nurse Receives Scholarship

Nyack Hospital announced  recently that they awarded its first Margaret Mary Kennedy Nursing Scholarship to Debbie Rye, R.N., of Valley Cottage, NY.

The scholarship is made possible by a generous gift from Mr. Peter Kennedy of Orangeburg, NY. He donated the funds in honor of his late wife. Grateful for the excellent nursing care she received at Nyack Hospital, he set up the scholarship program to honor her memory and to help others pursuing a career in nursing.

Mr. Kennedy said in a statement, “I am honored to provide an opportunity for Nyack Hospital employees to pursue nursing education.  The nursing care my wife, Margaret, received while a patient at Nyack Hospital was outstanding.  Not only does this gift honor Margaret’s memory, but it enables me to give back to the people who provided her with such wonderful care while supporting nursing excellence for the future.”

Scholarship recipient Debbie Rye stated, “I am delighted to receive this scholarship to help me further my nursing education.  Nursing is an ongoing learning process and I want to learn everything I can within the field.  My goal is to complete my degrees, continue caring for patients and also teach so that I can help prepare new nurses to provide exceptional patient care.”

The Margaret Mary Kennedy Nursing Scholarship will be presented annually to a Nyack Hospital employee who is enrolled in a nursing program, or to registered nurses who are pursuing an advanced degree in nursing.
