Film screening this Wednesday: 'Telling Amy's Story'

This Wednesday, will tell Amy's story.

It's a tragic narrative, and true—the tale of a domestic violence homicide that occurred in 2001.

Telling Amy's Story, a documentary slated to be screened, traces the murder of Amy Homan McGee, a young Penn State graduate who was killed by her abusive husband, Vincent.

The documentary is brief—just one hour—but has swept up a variety of accolades, like the Golden Eagle award from the 2011 CINE Golden Eagle Competition.

The film is hosted by familiar face Mariska Hargitay, actress and activist from Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.

"When I started on Law and Order: SUV, violence and abuse had never played a significant role in my life," Hargitay says at the start of the film. "And then there I was, immersed everyday in some of the worst people can do to each other."

Telling Amy's Story will be followed by statements from a survivor of a violent crime, and words from Lois Bohovesky, whose daughter Paula .

Lois Bohovesky was relieved earlier this year when Robert McCain, one of the men guilty of killing Paula, .

Wednesday's screening commemorates Nation Crime Victims' Week, and was organized by Rockland Family Shelter and the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office. It is co-sponsored by VCS Inc., VERIZON and the Police Chiefs Association of Rockland County.

There is no fee to attend, and no R.S.V.P. required.
