New Regional Leader for Boy Scouts

David Horton named to oversee area that serves more than 8,000 scouts.

The Hudson Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America, which serves nearly 8,000 young people in Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan and Rockland counties, has named David G. Horton as its new Scout Executive / Chief Executive Officer.

David Horton, who comes from Reading, PA, begins his new post on Jan. 16, 2013.

He most recently served as Assistant Scout Executive for the Hawk Mountain Council. He has previously served as a Senior District Executive, Program Director and Field Director in Reading, PA. Horton began his professional career with the Boy Scouts of America in West Chester, PA, in 1981 as a District Executive.

Horton, who was an Eagle Scout, and his wife, Sally, have two children, Stephanie and David.

“We are thrilled to announce the selection of David as our Scout Executive,” said Michael Caporlingua, president of the Board of Directors of the Hudson Valley Council. “David’s successful track record convinced us that he is the perfect candidate to lead Scouting in our area to help serve more youth and see opportunities for new growth.”

The Hudson Valley Council serves nearly 8,000 young people in Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan and Rockland counties in New York and Pike County in Pennsylvania.
