Memorial Day Happenings in Nyack and Piermont

What to do this holiday Monday

Here's a roundup of Memorial Day happenings in the area this holiday weekend. Mark your calendars and fit these parades and ceremonies in with your barbecues and general lounging.

  • Watch fires. Memorial bonfires will be lit to honor those who died defending our country. The ceremonies will begin at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday at four Rockland locations: the peak of Clausland Mountain in Orangetown, Bowline Park in Haverstraw, Piermont Pier and Ramapo's Eugene Levy Memorial Park.
  • Oak Hill Cemetery Service. 9 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery on North Highland Avenue. The service will be carried out by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9215.
  • Veterans Park Service. 10 a.m. at Veterans Park on Main Street. The service will be carried out by American Legion Post 310.
  • Nyack Memorial Day Parade. 11:00 a.m.; parade begins in the Riverspace parking lot on Main Street and ends at Memorial Park.
  • Piermont Memorial Day Parade. 10 a.m. on Main Street.
  • West Nyack Rotary Memorial Day Parade. 11 a.m.; parade starts at the Clarkstown Reformed Church (107 Strawtown Road) and proceeds to West Nyack Hamlet Green. George Hoehman, Clarkstown Town Council member, is the Grand Marshal. David Carlucci, NYS Senator, will give the Memorial address.
